Bennett York, Sr. began developing grocery-anchored shopping centers in the early 1980s for the Jitney Jungle grocery store chain throughout Tennessee and Mississippi. York Developments also owns a 50,000 square-foot shopping center anchored by the grocery store, Corner Market, in Bellevue, MS. The York team has also developed big box retail for large National tenants such as Target, Book-a-Million, Ross, Homegoods, PetSmart and still owns a 130,316 square-foot box leased by a Lowes Home Improvement store in Hattiesburg, MS. Other notable National tenants in various York-owned retail properties have included Fed Ex, Lamar Outdoor and Firestone Tires.
